Baby carrier manufacturers should check compliance if they used these 4 labs

Graphic of two adults is laid atop an outline of China. One wears a baby carrier and the other pushes a stroller.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission just removed four laboratories located in China from its list of accepted labs. Carriers that have been tested at any of these labs are no longer considered compliant by the United States CPSC. You can read Chairman Feldman’s statement for full information.

With e-filing beginning on July 8, it is critical for companies to closely review their product compliance to prepare for the increased monitoring of Children’s Product Certificates. Neal Cohen, US product liability attorney, former CPSC small-business ombudsman, and the BCIA’s US compliance attorney, said in a blog post that “Given the political situation in the U.S. and the tone of the Acting Chairman’s statement, we expect that Chinese labs will continue to operate under heightened scrutiny.”

The labs in question are:

  • Shenzhen GTT Testing Technology Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1843), which lost its accreditation after investigators uncovered falsified test reports and the laboratory’s undisclosed relocation of its facilities.
  • Dongguan True Safety Testing Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1755), which violated testing rules, had its accreditation suspended, and failed to disclose that adverse action to CPSC.
  • Fujian Berton Testing Service Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1857), which violated testing rules, had its accreditation revoked, and failed to disclose that adverse action to CPSC.
  • Shenzhen HUAK Testing Technology Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1710), which certified furniture as compliant that later failed independent tip-over testing, and for which CPSC identified systemic failures in the laboratory’s testing procedures for children’s products, including infant walkers, bath seats, and bassinets.
