Notes: Nov 2025 meeting of the Babywearing Education Committee

A closeup of someone in a white shirt with hands measuring fabric is meant to imply they are testing for the EU baby sling standard

Current areas of focus

  1. Update 2010 white paper
  2. Review data and research related to optimal infant development and concerns
  3. Create consumer-facing and professional-facing information about the infant airway

In brief

Online conversations about babywearing have become increasingly rooted in fear and anecdote. Parents are not learning about the protective and sometimes life-saving impacts of carrying. Furthermore, peer-to-peer and influencer information about how to wear babies has taken on a long set of “rules” that make it difficult to get quality, important messaging about airway safety to parents and professionals.

As part of our work, the committee agreed to consider the overarching components of quality carrier messaging. We will have two dual focus areas:

  • the bio-evolutionary need for carrying and touch
  • the research about protecting newborn airways and bodies when using nursery products
