Closeup of Australia on a map with a red flag pinned into the center

On August 28, 2023, Australia published the mandatory Consumer Goods (Care Labelling) Information Standard 2023. The new Australian Care Label standard went into effect on September 5, 2023.

This is an update to the previous mandatory standard. In brief, the standard expands the labelling options for textile products such as baby carriers.

Australian Care Label standard prior to the regulatory change

Previously, the labelling on textile products had to comply with EITHER:

  • the requirements in section 11 for the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1957:1998 Textiles—Care labelling; OR
  • the Consumer Product Information Standard Care Labelling for Clothing and Textile Products (Consumer Protection Notice No. 25 of 2010)
